The UK celebrity gossip website and publication News of the World has long been known as an entertaining yet unreliable tabloid with a large following. However, it's days appear to be numbered following news of a massive wiretapping scandal which targeted some high-profile celebrities in the UK. Victims included royal couple Will & Kate, Hugh Grant, Sienna Miller, Jude Law, Prince Harry, and Heather Mills, to name a few.
The chairman of the publication, James Murdoch, admitted publicly that the tabloid failed to uncover the phone hacking ring as quickly as it should have. That's in spite of warning signs dating back to 2006, when two of its journalists were imprisoned for illegally employing private investigators to access celebrity voicemail accounts. Instead, the company maintained that the issues were confined to a few bad apples, when in fact the corruption went far beyond that.
