A recent Gallup poll places versatile, veteran actor Tom Hanks as the most popular actor.

I can certainly understand this but some of the results have puzzled me and I have to wonder just what criteria people use to judge celebrities.

For example, Mel Gibson has recently made disparaging remarks of the type that usually result in wholesale disdain.

But people actually voted him as more palatable than Angelina Jolie. Now Jolie may be somewhat kinky, but not only has she never engaged in the type of offensive behavior that Gibson has, but she's also a world recognized humanitarian.

I don't get it, unless it's the husband stealing thing that's being held against her. Still, when that was hot news people seemed evenly divided between Jolie as husband stealer, and Jennifer Aniston as an inadequate wife. There are even several reader comments on this blog that defend Jolie and knock Aniston on that topic.

It seems that the Royal Princes, William and Harry, are the guys of choice over Brad and Angelina, as well as Kate Moss and Pete Doherty. Somehow I can't envision Pete Doherty ever being upright on skis. Do they make skis with training wheels, or training skis?
