Despite recent attempts by California authorities to throttle back paparazzi shenanigans, Scarlett Johansson has been so hounded by them that she has called the police, and requested protection from them.

She says that there is a fleet of giant black SUVs parked almost perpetually outside her residence and that their drivers reckless behavior when following her causes her to fear for her life.

Scarlett says that whenever she goes out the SUV drivers box her in and create anxiety for her. She said that she is fearful that they will cause an accident involving other drivers in addition to her.

She said that the police told her that they couldn't stop them from photographing her. Johansson maintains that the picture taking, while an annoyance, isn't the issue, it's the fear of driving that they have caused that concerns her.

A few weeks ago, a large, black SUV seemed to be following me. When it turned into my street, which is a cul-de-sac, I thought the paparazzi were after me.

I was thrilled, and after I parked in my garage, I ran in to get my camcorder so I could tape them taking pictures of me.

However, when I went outside, I noticed that it was just a guy delivering flowers a few doors away.
