The "Daytona 500", won by Kevin Harvick, by little more than a nose-piece, was almost run without some of NASCAR's biggest names.
The race may have been attended by more Hollywood celebrities than motor sports stars, perhaps in an effort by NASCAR officials to take the focus off the recent string of illegal activities by pit crews.
The controversy centered on the use of illegal substances, but not of the type we commonly associate with sports. These drugs are added to the gas tank and are designed to boost a car's performance.
So we now have a form of steroids for cars.
A member of one of the crews that was ejected for illegal use of fuel additives said: "If you ain't cheatin', you ain't tryin'."
I have to laugh; people and politicians especially are always quick to criticize hollywood celebrities and sports stars because they aren't always good "role models." But these NASCAR guys, who have been endorsed by the President as, "swell fellas with values," turn out to be no different than the steroid users that congress went after.
Here's the link to coverage of the race by "ESPN".

News personalities Maury Povich and Connie Chung visited the media center and strolled through the garage area. Actor Nicholas Cage served as grand marshal.

There is a underground war for increasing octane number since the very first race. The "fight" is for the most untraceable substance. I think every mechanic team is using these substances, one way or another.

Most of them aren't role models indeed, they show us how to spend money on useless things or on drugs and alcohol. But they aren't want they want to look like! And we know what they are for real. So.. no luck for them.
