What the hell's going on in this world? Once again we're besieged by people desperate to save someone who doesn't need saving.

Ever since the Tom Cruise-Katie Holmes, or TomKat, relationship became public people have been acting as if she's taken up with the Boston Strangler.

What' s new, or bad about the age difference thing anyway? Cruise is a genuine nice guy, proven, successful, and one of the few Hollywooders who hasn't seen the inside of a jail cell or rehab center.

Holmes is, well, an OK actress, who happens to be good looking and tall, and therefore appealing to Tom.

People are acting as if this relationship, should it fail, is going to ruin her. What bullshit, and hey, she may have the face of a kid, but she is 26 years old after all.

Compared to say Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton, e.g. she's considerably older and apparently far less experienced.

So what's the big deal about her taking up with Cruise? His former significant others Nicole Kidman, Mimi Rogers, and Penelope Cruz don' t appear any worse off for having been involved with him.

Still there's a "Free Katie" movement afoot which is no doubt nothing more than another attempt to cash in on someone else's popularity.
