Athletes will try anything to win a game.

I used to be a huge sports fan, not anymore, now I'm just huge.

The never ending stream of useless chatter, and general BS spewed out by an overabundance of sports announcers, and the commercial breaks, after nearly every play during NFL games at least, have soured me on sports.

In my youth I played all manner of sports and for a while, until I blew a knee out, I was even considered a possible prospect for baseball.

Now, I can't even watch a game because they come off more as a corporate meeting rather than what they are, games.

But that's just me, and pro sports still have legions of fans that suck up truckloads of beer, while living their lives vicariously through the antics of their heroes.

The players try everything to bring about victory. Hockey players wear the same socks all season for luck, and then spend the off-season trying to clear their feet of the creeping crud.

Some football players engage in a pre-game puke fest, I suppose so there won't be anything to lose during the game, after a bone jarring tackle.

My favorite ritual though is indulged in by the "players of faith," who for some reason, seem to think that God will improve their, rather then their opponents skills, if they offer up a bit of praise.

allen iverson is a good example of appealing to a higher power for an edge.
His team had a losing season, so I guess he played against teams with better prayer coaches, or players.

I often wondered just how this whole prayer for points thing works. If credit for a victory is attributed to an entity, any entity, I wonder who gets the blame when the team loses?

Anyway, I think Iverson would do well to remember the saying: "The Lord helps those who help themselves," and spend the summer practicing his jump shot.
