Given the number of celebrity, or soon to be celebrity athletes on America's Olympic Team it's only right that I profile at least one of these hard working stars of sport.

I thought about this long and hard about who to feature and I decided that I would clue everyone in to a couple of lesser known, but still highly accomplished athletes.

After all, everyone is posting about Michael Phelps, the super human American swimmer who won 8 gold medals, so he's adequately covered, and I like being different.

Because of my love of the ocean and beaches I'm directing your attention to kerri walsh, shown above, who, along with her team mate, Misty May-Treanor, has taken her second Olympic gold medal in 4 years.


The great thing about beach volleyball is that there are virtually no costs; no matter how modest a woman's exercise budget may be, she can afford to play beach volleyball.

I'll bet my wife would agree; she was a fencer in college, and needed protective clothing and headgear, special shoes and swords.

All that's needed for beach volleyball is some skimpy underwear and a ball. That's it, you really don't need a beach, and a make believe net is good enough.

To keep costs down, the contestants don't even have to wear out their underwear by wearing it, and, no ball, no problem, use a make believe ball and jump around.

The sport can be practiced anywhere too, there's no need to waste gas driving to the beach, the street in front of my house is will do just fine.

But that's enough about economics.

Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor have never lost a match and I send them my sincere congratulations.
