Madonna's quickie adoption of an orphan from Malawi is drawing criticism from several quarters.

It seems that Madonna is being accused of "buying" a child, and paying off the government of Malawi in order to circumvent the lengthy, formal adoption process.

So what?

I sense sour grapes here among people who want to adopt and have to "stand in line."

Well that's the way it goes in life; if you're rich you get more, and you get it how, when, and where you want it.

In this instance it's win-win all around, for the child, the country of Malawi, and the continent of Africa, and yes, for Madonna, who did a good thing.

My feelings towards Madonna run hot and cold and I've knocked her more than praised her in this blog. No one can accuse me of standing up for her on the basis of being a fan.

But isn't this situation about the welfare of David, a helpless, needy child? Some may say that it's a publicity stunt but I don't think so. Madonna is filthy rich and has been in the limelight most of her life. Everything she does, except her acting, is successful and reaps huge rewards for her.

If this adoption is just part of another celebrity fad so what. This kid is going to have a life that most of us could only dream of. Regardless of Madonna's ulterior motive, if there is one, the kid benefits, and that's what her critics should consider.

Madonna's actions didn't push back any ordinary people waiting to adopt, it just sped up the adoption of a kid that probably would have gone unnoticed. I mean, who the hell ever heard of Malawi, except postage stamp collectors?

The boy's father, Yohame Banda, was critical of Madonna's detractors saying that people, "...are jealous of my son."

He has his son's best interests in mind and so should everyone else.
