The latest Harry Potter movie, "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban," is set to open on June 4th, and already there's talk of the next one in the series.
This time however, the rumors center around the star, Daniel Radcliffe, as perhaps being too old to portray Harry in future movies. We'll see.
Anyway, despite the speculation, the movie's premiere showing was well attended by throngs of fans some of whom had been on line since 4am.
Even the young, but now seasoned celebrity, Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter,) was overwhelmed by the shrieking fans who lined up for as long as 12 hours this past Sunday to catch a glimpse of their idol. "It's really amazing," the 14-year-old said, a little shaky as he paused to wave at swooning teenage girls, some holding signs saying, "Marry me, Dan."
Singer Rob Thomas of "Matchbox Twenty," no stranger to screaming women, expressed surprise, and said: "When Harry Potter got out I think you could actually see his hair blow back from the screams. They're very excited."
Rupert Grint, who plays Harry's friend Ron Weasley at the Hogwarts School said, "It's quite cool."
Lots of celebrities brought their kids to the New York premiere, or was it the other way around? Susan Sarandon, Tim Robbins, and ABC's Meredith Vieira were there, cameras in hand.
Christie Brinkley took pictures of her husband, children and nephew together on the red carpet and said, "My son and I read all the books together out loud, in all the accents."
Alan Rickman, 58, who plays nasty Hogwarts professor Severus Snape, received a marriage proposal from an older fan. "She must be desperate," he said, with a frown.
This installment features a new director, Alfonso Cuaron, who directed the Mexican hit "Y Tu Mama Tambien." Cuaron has created a darker and more sophisticated movie but assures us that, "It's not violent. It can be spooky at points, but good spooky, kids like to be spooked a little."
Radcliffe added, "I've seen it a couple of times, and the only ones scared were the adults."
Signs reading, "Emma Thompson (Hermione Granger), We Deeply Admire and Respect You," were displayed, to the delight of the young star.
The cast members, to the dismay of the NYC cops, mingled freely with the crowd happily signing autographs and posing for pictures.
Producer Christopher Columbus said, "For the last four years I've been eating and sleeping with Harry Potter, I brush my teeth, and I'm thinking 'Harry Potter.'"
I don't think he's complaining about his success though.
