Last month our main TV died; I think it somehow electrocuted itself. It was only 15-years-old; nothing lasts anymore.

My wife decided that we should enter the 21st Century and so we bought a new fangled LCD High Definition TV. It' s 32 inches and weighs nothing compared to the behemoth 27-inch console it replaced.

In fact, 3 weeks later, I'm still nursing a sore back as the result of my bullying the old set out to the curb for the trash collectors.

The picture on the new set is outstanding, especially on the actual premium High Definition channels that cost extra, on top of the Digital cable charge, on top of the Premium services charge, on top of the basic cable rate.

So now we have an additional 30 or so channels with not much worth watching.

One of the first things I noticed, while watching "Troy," was the amazing detail in the face of an actress who had been roughed up. The makeup, which emulated dirt and blood, was far more noticeable than on analog television.

The actress, Siri Svegler, is very young and has a great complexion so even the simulated bruises and debris did not detract from her good looks.

Except for that stupid crocheted piss pot of a skullcap, Cameron Diaz looks pretty good on that High Definition TV shot of her on "The Tonight Show."

But not everyone looks good up close, especially when his or her face is spread over a screen that measures upwards of 72 inches.
