CELEBRITIES & GOSSIP
by jim on October 24, 2005
Everyone knows that Hollywood is the land of illusion, not only in what's presented on the silver screen but in what goes on behind the scenes.
But Johnny Depp getting hair help, is that possible?
Well, the rumors are out there that the Johnny Scissorhands may in fact be follically challenged.
How about Owen Wilson or Matt Damon, are they courting cue ball craniums?
It seems that there's a new guru to Hollywood stars, Dr. Robert Bernstein, founder of The Center For Hair Restoration, in Fort Lee, New Jersey.
The balding Dr. Bernstein has developed a hair restoration procedure that apparently is all the rage among the Hollywood hair-less.
Yours truly has an old connection to Fort Lee, New Jersey, an upscale town separated from Manhattan by the Hudson River.
This is a classy place loaded with expensive homes, high-rise condominiums, office buildings and thriving businesses. Not surprisingly there are a goodly number of show business celebrities who also call Fort Lee home.
Many of New York's most prominent businessmen and Wall-Street types live there so take advantage of easy access to nearby bucolic areas. The short commute across the George Washington Bridge to New York City is more than worth it for those who want to leave the noise and hustle of the city behind at the end of the day.
So it's no surprise that a probably expensive cosmetic treatment was developed and is marketed from within the boundaries of this exclusive suburb.
Oh yeah, what was my connection to all this?
Well, from time to time, I rubbed shoulders, on a professional basis, with some of the celebrities who lived in Fort Lee.
That's right, in my youth; I was a grease monkey and car detailer at my Uncle Joe's gas station in Fort Lee, right across the street from the famous "Palisades Amusment Park."
I fondly remember pumping gas into Buddy Hackett's can.
OK, Hackett wasn't driving it, but the next time he did, it was on gas that I had professionally pumped into the tank.
How do I know it was his car? I know because the guy driving it told me it was and not to spill any gas on the fender.
Here' s an article about the new process and who might be using it.

Steve: Here's a link that will bring you to a map of the area. It clearly shows that Palisades Park was situated in Cliffside Park, and Fort Lee.

My uncle's garage, which was a Sunoco station, and there was a night club named "The Vat," in back of it, was right across Palisades Avenue from an open, gravel covered parking lot which was part of the Park's property. That was situated on the northern most part of the property. Hiram's and Callahan's hot dog places were just north of the station.
What part of the area are you from, Steve?
