Here's some news about my wife's favorite guy, George Clooney. Hey, what the hell, I don't mind coming in second; that worked out pretty well for the "American Idol" runner-ups.

Gee, and I have the same hat that he's wearing too, and mine is cleaner, but I guess that's the only item I have in common with him.

Anyway, Georgie has been a bit active and the first piece of news I have is that he, along with Brad Pitt, et al, have decided to abandon their plans to build a 50's themed hotel and casino here in Las Vegas.

That's probably the reason I didn't get a call from those guys when I reported that item.

They must have had their doubts about the project early on and didn't want to waste my time.

Clooney's clan did double the money they paid for the land when they sold it to another developer so his gamble in Vegas paid off. Clooney said he would donate his profit to The African Debt Relief Fund.

George will have to make room on his mantle for another prestigious award. This fall he will be honored with the "American Cinematheque Award".
