Former Clinton Vice President, and winner/loser of the 2000 Presidential Election, al gore
, is trying his hand at television.Along with West Wing actor Bradley Whitford, and various other luminaries, Gore bought Canadian cable TV outlet, Newsworld International, from Vivendi Universal for an undisclosed sum.
The plan is to establish a youth oriented station aimed at the 18 to 34 year-old crowd. Public affairs and entertainment in a documentary/comedic style will be the focus of the broadcasts, devoid of politics. Is that possible?
Gore swears that the slant won't be Liberal or Democratic but rumors abound that the true intent is to counter the heavily Conservative Fox News Network, which recently unseated CNN as the most popular cable news outlet.
As chairman of the new network Gore said:
"I will be extremely active in this venture and I will not hesitate to state a point of view on the issues that affect the industry."
Gore's business partner is attorney Joel Hyatt, who founded a chain of low-cost storefront legal clinics. He will serve as CEO of the venture which is known as INdTV Holdings LLC.
Currently Newsworld International has 17 million subscribers and is distributed on DirecTV, Time Warner Cable and in certain Comcast markets and features 24-hour global news.
As they say in the world of Television, "stay tuned," and we'll let you know what this politician and lawyer partnership produces.
