CELEBRITIES & GOSSIP
by jim on December 26, 2006

Edward Norton, seen here saying, "Just say no to swag." Is now being credited bringing an end to era of the celebrity "Goody Bag."
Both the Academy Awards and the Golden Globes have discontinued the "swag bag" giveaways to actors. These "token" gift bags, which contained as much as $100,000.00 worth of various trinkets, were eagerly gobbled up by actors, some of whom are paid as much as 20 million bucks per picture.
Last year the IRS stepped in and decided that this was "income" and subject to tax, a move that angered many of Hollywood's crybabies, who despite being filthy rich, are not used to paying for anything.
Ed Norton was annoyed at being bothered by the IRS about this and apparently suggested to The Academy that the value of the bags be donated to charity rather than given to the rich.
Since there's no glamour in giving cash to charities, and no publicity for the providers of the overpriced items that would have gone into the bags, The Academy simply discontinued the program.
Poor babies.
In other Ed Norton news rumor has it that he's now embarking on a quest to act in romantic movies.

Seems like everyone lost in that scenario.
