CELEBRITIES & GOSSIP
by jim on December 17, 2006

It looks like the celebrity endorsement gravy train is coming to a screeching halt.
I always wondered if it made sense to have celebrities endorse products, or at the very least act as a product spokesperson.
My personal gripe against this are the enormous fees paid to celebrities, such as Britney Spears, shown here, which add to the already inflated prices such products carry.
I suppose it makes someone feel good if their favorite celebrity is perceived as using a particular brand of lice soap or enema solution, but is it worth paying them to tell you so?
It seems that the end of this era is at hand as explained in this article.
Here's a website with all sorts of information about which celebrity has endorsed which products.

I am sure that I would not buy motor oil even if Selma Hayek told me so, and I would definitely not buy baby products if Tom Cruise endorsed it! But, I think that with beauty products things become a bit different, because every gal wants to look like Madonna or have skin like Carmen Electra. Famous faces do sell cosmetics better than commercials in my opinion.
