Beckham has come to the USA to play soccer and perhaps become a Scientologist.
David has become fast friends with Scientologist extraordinaire, Tom Cruise, and you know how some people are about their religion, they just have to try to convert everyone.
What I find interesting about this whole Scientology thing is that it seems to be the current religion of the rich. I guess they take regular folk but the only ones you hear about are very well off.
There's also something mystical and seemingly ultra intelligent about having a title that ends in "ist," such as paleontologist, or agronomist, or ichthyologist, and even plain old scientist.
Maybe if I stop calling myself a writer and refer to myself as a "scribbilist" I'll get a raise.

This is a great article that outlines the reasons behind Beckham's decision to leave Europe, and even though he says in the other piece that it's not about money, it seems that there are some very lucrative advertising deals awaiting him in L.A..
