COMEDIANS RUNNING FOR POLITICAL OFFICE
Filed in archive POLITCAL PARTYING by jim on March 03, 2007

I came across this article without realizing that it was about politics in The Philippines, it seems they also have a legislative body called The Senate.
It brought to mind the fact that American comedian, Al Franken, has just tossed his sombrero in the ring, and will run in Minnesota for the US Senate, as a Democrat.
Naturally this brought a solid round of boos from the Republicans who seem to feel that people who make jokes for a living aren't very smart.
This brings to mind a comment I once heard, from I believe Woody Allen, that, "comedians take serious matters and relate them in a funny manner." Like him or not, Woody Allen is certainly intelligent, and he's, beneath it all, a comedian.
Meanwhile, a few years back I recall the Republicans tried to convince former NFL coach Mike Ditka to run for office.
Why, what are his qualifications? His curriculum vitae lists Ditka as attending the University of Pittsburgh, where, as near as I can tell, he majored in football.
Obviously the Republicans run people who are felt can win and will then vote on the issues as they are instructed by the Party bosses.
Now that's a joke.
If you want to learn more about Harvard graduate Al Franken's scholastic and other intellectual accomplishments you can check them out here, and you'll see that's he's infinitely qualified for political office.
