CELEBRITY CARS

We are a car driven society, or should that be, a society that drives cars?
Whatever, there are cars all over; the streets are full of them, which makes sense.
Here in Vegas, where you can find anything, there is every manner of vehicle on the streets and roads, from the most humble, utilitarian people mover, to lavish Rolls Royce's and Ferrari's.
Ever since L.A. opened its floodgates and swarms of car crazy people moved from there to here, we have every manner of monstrosity plying the streets. High riders, low riders, monster trucks, tricked out Hondas with loud aftermarket exhaust systems, innumerable pickup trucks and giant SUV's that never carried more than a grocery bag, and the ubiquitous BMW's are everywhere, going nowhere, in a hurry.
I even saw a pickup truck taxicab once. That must be available to accommodate the "windshield cowboys
" that blow into town for the year-end rodeo championships.Of course celebrities drive too, and they ain't buying any Chevy's.
Last week I had a promotional twofer for the buffet at a recently opened casino, and like Homer Simpson, if there's free food, I'm there.
My wife decided to let me drive, so I wouldn't forget how, and after the short trip to the casino parking garage I eased the Sonata into a space almost next to the elevator.
As we walked to the elevator I commented on how well our car fit in with the Mercedes, Porsches, Escalades, Jaguar's, BMWs, Lexis, and what I thought was the coolest Dodge I ever saw, until my wife informed me that it was a Bentley.
Now these are the kinds wheels that celebrities drive, as this article reveals.
Check out, "The Dupont Registry," for a look at more of the upscale and eclectic cars driven by celebrities.
This magazine, with its classy, expensive sounding name, has some great photos, like the one of Anastasia Ashley, who looks like a great ride too.
Of course some celebrities disdain the lavish, high horsepower examples of conspicuous consumption, and opt for the newest in alternative vehicles as this article and, this story point out.
Sometimes a car just isn't enough and if you have the bucks, as does Joss Stone, you can shell out about $180,000 to take your grandfather to The World Cup, as she did.
Oh, the free casino meal was great by the way, and wasn't in the least bit diminished by the fact that I had pissed away 50 cents in an obviously defective slot machine. As I belched my way back to our car, I again admired the vehicles ours was nestled among, and then my wife noticed a ticket under the windshield wipers.
It seems that I had parked in an area reserved for high rollers. There was no fine, but the ticket noted that our plate number was now "in their system" and another infraction would bring a tow truck.
I'll remember that the next time I get a twofer for that place and use my old New Jersey plates instead.
