BUY MADONNA'S GUITAR AND HELP A KATRINA VICTIM
Filed in archive MUSIC NOTES by jim on October 07, 2006
It's not everyday that you can buy a piece of celebrity history and help someone in need at the same time.
Madonna is known as and for a lot of things, but guitar playing is not one of her endeavors that is highly publicized.
During her 2001 "Drowned World" tour Madonna played a custom made Gibson Les Paul guitar, which she gave to her guitar tech, the well known, and highly respected, John Griswold.
The guitar is a one of a kind, and despite its sentimental value, Griswold, who was displaced by hurricane Katrina, is auctioning the guitar to raise money for his family.
John lost nearly everything due to the hurricane and could use some help rebuilding his family's life. Here's the first press release and photo of Madonna playing the axe.
Here is an extensive series of photos and detailed description of the guitar.
Obviously this is not your everyday piece of celebrity memorabilia, and the price is reflective of its rarity, and uniqueness.
So, if anyone out there has the means, or knows someone who does, this is an excellent opportunity to acquire a piece of music history, and do a good deed as well.
The guitar went up for bids a few hours ago on eBay.com.
I already own 3 electric guitars
that I can't play, but if I had the money, I'd be in the running for this one.Nicholas Cage is a guitar aficionado; maybe someone can put him onto this auction.
