Hey, didn't I always say you could get anything you want in Las Vegas?

Now it seems that celebrities, including Jessica Simpson and Leonardo DiCaprio, are taking up residence here in record numbers, all due to the "vertical growth," phenomena.

Until recently there were only three hi-rise condominium complexes in Vegas, and they were priced way out of reach of most people.

Well, guess what? In the past two years single-family house prices here have skyrocketed causing raw land to rise in value, which means that businesspeople want to get more housing out of every available square inch of the land they develop.

So the answer is to build upwards and now there are a bunch of new hi-rise condominiums, in various stages of completion, also priced out of reach of most people.

But that's no problem for people with money and that's what celebrities have in abundance. So with each new condominium project comes an announcement that so and so has already reserved a unit.

Not a bad publicity stunt if you ask me. Usually realtors tell you that the nearby schools are great, or that there are plenty of convenient amenities, such as all night churches and tattoo parlors, as enticement to buy.

The condo pitch however, can go something like: "Dude, how'd ya like to tell your buds that you live with Jessica Simpson. I mean you'll be in the same building right?"

Man this house and money stuff always confused me. My neighbors recently told me how much our houses had risen in value. I told my wife, and she said she knew, and that we wouldn't be able to afford to buy our house at its current price.

I got all upset because I thought that meant we had to move. But she explained it to me, and I think I understand now. Boy am I glad, not only do I hate moving, but I just put up a shelf for my toy elephant collection.

Obviously word that I live here is getting out and that's helping to bring in the big names. I wonder if I should get a second phone line now?
