A blast from the past, Boy George, is back in the news, but not in a flattering way.

The former, flamboyant singer turned celebrity DJ is down in the dumps these days, the garbage dumps of New York that is.

As a result of a copped plea for drug possession the former, sort of cross dressing, crooner, is performing community service in New York.

The 45-year-old Boy George still has his share of fans, however, as not everyone who showed up to observe him was there for the purpose of boo-hissing him.

The actual sentence was handed down as a result of Boy George's false police report in which he claimed his New York apartment had been burgled. During the ensuing investigation the cops discovered the cocaine, which George claimed was left there without his knowledge, by a guest, at a part he did not attend.

Hmmn, seems the boy should have cleaned up the place a bit before calling 911.

O'Dowd, his real name, wanted to organize an AIDS benefit concert in lieu of street sweeping, but the judge refused to go along with the proposal.

Oh well, if nothing else, Boy George can always say, with sincerity, that things are picking up for him.
