The 79th Academy Awards are history.
Here's the winners, in no particular order:
SHORT FILM (live action)
"West Bank Story" - Nice takeoff on "West Side Story".
SHORT FILM (animated)
"The Danish Poet" - Scandinavians always win the weirdo categories.
ART DIRECTION
"Pan's Labyrinth" Artsy titled movies always win this category.
MAKEUP
"Pan's Labyrinth" Always goes to film with most makeup.
SOUND MIXING
"Dreamgirls" It's about the music.
SOUND EDITING
"Letters From Iwo Jima" - Consolation prize for Clint Eastwood, and the father of one of the sound editor's was at Iwo Jima, duh.
ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
Alan Arkin - Long overdue, he makes me laugh so I'm happy for him.
ANIMATED FEATURE
"Happy Feet" - Because everyone like penguins.
COSTUME DESIGN
"Marie Antoinette" - Have to give the French something or there will be hissy fits all over Paris.
ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
Jennifer Hudson - To make Paula Abdul and the rest of the "American Idol" judges look like asses.
DOCUMENTARY FEATURE
"An Inconvenient Truth" - To make up for the fact that he got screwed out of the Presidency.
MUSIC (song)
"An Inconvenient Truth" - To drive the point home.
FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM
"The Lives Of Others" - Awarded only because it's mandatory.
WRITING (original Screenplay)
"Little Miss Sunshine"
ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE
Helen Mirren - Because she's a great actress, and it was her turn.
DIRECTING
Martin Scorcese - Because Tony Soprano made a phone call.
"The Departed"
ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE
Forest Whitaker - Because he deserved it and I wanted it for him.
BEST PICTURE
"The Departed" - The Academy members likes one word titles.
