Nomar Garciaparra. That's right, another guy. Don't start clucking your tongues yet girls, he's still available to you. Big Ben was engaging in some charitable work in the Boston area with the baseball great.

Garciaparra, who has been on injured reserve so far this season due to an achilles tendon injury, was feting his fifth annual Nomar Bowl at Town Line Ten Pin.

Governor Mitt Romney and actors Mike O Malley and Seth Myers were on hand along with an array of Olympic gold medal, Super Bowl, Stanley Cup winners and members of the non-champion Boston Red Sox.

"He shows us that when you're in the limelight, you can use that for good," Romney said. "What a hero he is in so many ways -- so it's great to have athletes that you can look up to, not just for what they can do with their arms and their legs, but what they can do with their heart, and this is one of those guys."

"I'm just appreciative that he's willing to stand out and lead not only the community but other athletes," Romney added. "They can say, Gosh, you know, when you're on the stage like you are when you're a Red Sox, you can lead in other ways and make all of us turn to the people who have needs and give of our time and our energy to help those folks."

Norwegian Johann Olav Koss, a four-time Olympic gold-medal speed skater also praised all around good-guy Garciaparra:

"The reputation goes all the way to Norway," he said. "It's not only an example for the athletes here in America. It's an example for athletes all around the world and I think that's incredible."

"Nomar goes out of his way to have something like this that helps out the community," New England Revolution goalkeeper Adin Brown said. "It says a lot, not only a lot about him, but about what he's about and what he brings to the table."

"It's raising a lot of money for a number of really good, important causes," Affleck said. "So I can feel better about being self-indulgent and getting to hang out with my heroes."

Christian Fauria, the Patriots tight end said, "If someone goes through enough time to put something like this on, as an athlete, as a guy who can give back and it means something, you want to be able to do that. If he's sacrificing his time to put on this huge awesome little deal, then if he invites you, you should sacrifice your time and come out and support him. And it's not like it's a hard job, like we're digging ditches. We're bowling and we're hanging out with a lot of people, having a good time."

Proceeds from the event will benefit five local charities selected for their promotion of the five core values of the Nomar 5 Fund: family, education, sportsmanship, citizenship and teamwork.

It's nice to see a bunch of macho guys giving their time to give back to the community that supports them.
